Project Title:
Without title. Video installation project
Idea:
Can we see each other without masks sometimes? Is the seeing real? If we can`t recognize ourselves differently as only in a particular mask, how do we want to believe in some reality? How many deformations bears a visual message with it?
Project Description:
A surface, a glass wall covered by black foil from behind. The wall is situated app. 1 meter from a back wall in front of an entrance / a side wall.
The actions which happening on the surface:
1. Real reflections of viewers /as in the mirror
2. Reflections projected at this surface which are reflections from glassy shop windows, buss doors, windows - reflection surfaces which bear events happening behind the reflection surface
3. transparences to the space behind the surface - put it differently - "a real reality"
Every reflection has a certain amount of a deformation, so the reality is in this case only a subjective net of viewers` associations. For the artist that is a certain kind of a hypocrisy, a mask we have when looking into a reflection surface in the moment when we don`t expect to see our face. We are forgetting our own reflection and follow what is going on parallel behind the surface - in the second plan. It is a certain kind of voyeurism. Then there is another mask - a reality going on behind a surface we are looking at. So can we see each other without mask sometimes? Is the seeing real? If we can`t recognize ourselves differently as only in a particular mask, how do we want to believe in some reality? How many deformations bears a visual message with it? On the other side those typical views in which we recognize ourselves bear a footstep of an intimacy. Those masks are here with us in various situations and they don`t change as if there was some observer behind a mirror and when we are in his point of view we try to act nicely. But that observer is us.
